Mrs. Denise Richards

Hello My Name Is...

Mrs. Denise Richards

Hello All!
My name is Denise Richards and I am an 8th grade REACH teacher within the Innovation Academy. I have taught in the REACH (Reading English to Analyze Culture and History) program for the past three years, with my previous teaching in 8th English, as well as the high school (Eng I, Eng II/ENG II ADV, and ENG IV, and Theatre). Of all subjects, 8th grade REACH has by far been my favorite. The energy of the two subjects together is phenomenal!

I attended Austin Peay State University where I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor Degree in English, with a minor in History and Secondary Education. Before deciding to pursue another career, I was working as a Cosmetologist, which I still hold an active licensure after 27 years! I still enjoy the occasional day behind the chair, but my passion is definitely in teaching at Springfield Middle School.

In our REACH classroom we will explore various types of literature; multiple writing strategies; foundations of language usage; analyze primary source documents; learn to write research papers (MLA formatting); READ; the American Revolution to the Civil War; and much more! The implementation of technology has opened many avenues for success in our classroom and scholars will be using the laptop on a daily basis.
I love being creative and giving my scholars the freedom to explore with a fresh mind, encouraging them to truly think outside the box.
To all my future scholars...the world is yours for the taking, so lets start this journey together!
